Welch Township, according to the 2016 State Demographer's report has 741 persons and 283 households.
There are 33.5 miles of gravel roads and 2.4 miles of bituminous roads in the township.

The township has approximately 42 sections, with about 3 sections under water. The township  s not square because of the Mississippi River and the Cannon River as well as a land swap with Vasa Township many years ago.

There are 8 lakes in the township: Mud Hen Lake, Sharp Muskrat Lake, Twin Lakes, North Lake, Clear Lake, Upper Clear Lake, Lower Rattling Springs Lake, and Upper Rattling Springs Lake.

The Cannon Falls Post Office delivers to approximately 750 rural mailboxes in the township.
